A party celebrating Wrexham’s promotion to the Championship is set to be held over the Bank Holiday weekend. The Red Dragons, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, registered their third successive promotion on Saturday after beating Charlton Athletic 3-0 at home.

The club has now announced a celebration event will be held at the Racecourse Ground on Sunday in honour of Phil Parkinson’s side’s achievements. The event kicks off at 1.30pm and will feature live music and the player of the season awards ceremony.

Tickets costing £5 are currently on sale to season ticket holders and club members via Wrexham’s official website. Any remaining tickets will go on sale general sale on Thursday at 10am.

In a statement, a club spokesperson said: “The Macron Stand, Wrexham Lager Stand and SToK Cold Brew Coffee Stand will be open for the event, which is expected to finish at 5pm, with live music and the awards ceremony on a stage on the pitch.

“Season-ticket holder seats are not reserved for this event – you can choose to sit anywhere in the venue. Concourse bars will be open for food and drink, which can be consumed in your seat as this is not a match-day.

“The players and staff will also perform a lap of honour at the end, before they leave for the summer break ahead of our return to the EFL Championship.”

The event will take place 24 hours after Wrexham’s final League One game of the season away at Lincoln City. The North Wales outfit will compete in the Championship next term for the first time in 43 years.

Goals from Smith and Ollie Rathbone fired Wrexham to glory against Charlton on Saturday in front of a packed out crowd of 12,774. Fans got the celebrations started by storming the pitch as players were hoisted onto supporters’ shoulders.

Reynolds and McElhenney were seen enjoying themselves in their private box, before later joining the team on the pitch to lift the runners-up trophy, while Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively also got involved. The revelry then continued on the streets of Wrexham, along with bars as pubs, as players and fans celebrated long into the night.

Reynolds has paid tribute to the club’s supporters in the wake of the jubilant scenes after sharing an emotional post on social media. The Deadpool star also describe his involvement with Wrexham as “one of the greatest experiences of my life”.

He said: “This club is the sum of its supporters. Before we showed up they’d saved it multiple times. It’s a temple as much as a football pitch. @Wrexham_AFC has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.

“It’s hard to avoid immediately starting work on next season – but important to take the moment in… Looking back and looking forward feels really good right now. I think I speak for @RMcElhenney when I say, thank you for the greatest four years and here’s to many more.”

Reynolds has also restated Wrexham’s ambitious goal of reaching the Premier League. “Four years ago, this man [McElhenney] said our goal is to make it to the Premier League,” he told Sky Sports. “There was understandably a lot of titters, laughter and giggles – but it’s starting to feel like a tangible thing that could actually come to fruition.”
