MADISON, Wis.—Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU), the strategic partner of World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), today announced President Mike Reuter will step down from his position after seven years of leadership to pursue a new opportunity.
“Serving the global credit union movement has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career,” said Reuter. “From Singapore to Ukraine and beyond, I’ve witnessed firsthand the power of cooperative finance and the generosity of the credit union community.”
Elissa McCarter LaBorde, President and CEO of WOCCU, is working closely with the WFCU Board of Directors to manage the transition.
“We are grateful for Mike’s impact and vision. The Foundation is well positioned to enter its next chapter with purpose, momentum and an unwavering commitment to our global mission,” said LaBorde.
A search for WFCU’s next leader will begin shortly. The WFCU Board has initiated a thoughtful leadership transition in the interim, designating:
- Angelina Tracy, WOCCU Vice President of Strategic Growth and Partnerships, to oversee daily operations.
- Marcey Ciaccio, WFCU Philanthropy Manager, to lead fundraising efforts.
- Eleni Giakoumopoulos, Director of the Global Women’s Leadership Network (GLWN), to support WFCU’s leadership development and network programs.
Under Mike’s leadership, the Foundation expanded its donor base and annual donations. He guided WFCU through the COVID-19 pandemic, and also elevated the organization’s role in International Credit Union Day and the ICUDE designation.
Most recently, in partnership with WOCCU, WFCU supported Ukraine’s credit unions with the Ukrainian Credit Union Displacement Fund, realizing over $2 million in emergency funding over a three-year period. In 2025, WFCU launched the Rally the Movement campaign to raise emergency funds to bridge the gap to continue WOCCU’s international development work in the aftermath of the U.S. Government’s termination of foreign assistance awards.
Mike has accepted a new leadership opportunity to serve as the University of Wisconsin Libraries’ Director of Communications and Advancement, a role that aligns with his long-standing passion for the humanities, education and storytelling.
His last day with WFCU will be Friday, April 25.
