Woolworths sends shoppers racing over the unexpected launch of sell-out item: ‘I’m screaming and crying’

Woolworths has jumped on the pistachio bandwagon – surprising shoppers with the unexpected launch of a popular nutty spread made from the shelled nuts.

The supermarket chain announced on social media that the Pistachio Papi jars are set to hit shelves across Australia from June 16.

‘We’ve noticed a real buzz around pistachio lately – it’s popping up in everything from desserts and snacks to savoury dishes – so it’s great to bring the popular Pistachio Papi spread to our customers this month,’ a Woolworths spokesperson told FEMAIL.

‘At Woolworths, we’re always looking to introduce exciting new flavours and products that inspire our customers.’

Just like peanut butter, the spread will come in smooth and crunchy varieties.

The news has sent shoppers into a spin, with many struggling to contain their excitement over the launch.

‘OMG this is HUGGGGEEEEE,’ one said.

‘Screaming and crying,’ another revealed.

Woolworths has announced that the hugely popular Pistachio Papi jars are set to hit shelves at all stores across Australia from June 16

‘OMG best day of my life,’ one shared.

‘BEST spread ever,’ another raved.

However, some suggested the launch of the pistachio spread may lead to an addiction, with one joking: ‘This kind of easy access is going to be a problem’.

Mark Abdelmalik, the Melbourne founder of Pistachio Papi, confirmed the news that his brand will finally be landing in Woolworths this month.

‘It’s happening. Our mission at Pistachio Papi has always been to build a brand that makes you feel something while staying accessible to everyone. A true household name,’ he said on Instagram.

‘Almost a year ago, we began conversations with Woolworths to bring our beloved spread to shelves across the country.

‘From day one, we’ve been driven by the love and support of our independent community and our loyal, cult-following fan base – creating a product that speaks for itself. Made by the people, for the people.

‘On behalf of the entire Pistachio Papi team: thank you. Thank you for your endless support, your trust, and most of all – your patience.

‘We’re so excited to officially launch nationwide in all Woolworths stores.’

It’s unclear how much the pistachio spread will cost at Woolies – but they are currently selling for $19 a pop on the official website.

Pistachio Papi is made in Italy before it’s shipped directly to Melbourne for bottling.

The sought-after nutty spread has sold out multiple times – with fans desperately searching high and low for the jars in recent months.

Before making its supermarket debut, the jars were only available online or through boutique stockists around the country.

Over the months, the brand has been collaborating with big names – including Krispy Kreme and Yo-Chi – to bring out desserts showcasing the tasty pistachio spread.

The Pistachio Overload Doughnuts from Krispy Kreme have been so popular that they were selling out by 10am every day at all Australian stores during their first launch back in February.
