Woman with life-threatening injuries in Scarborough shooting

Cops say a woman in her 20s was shot in Scarborough on Thursday night.

Toronto Police said in a social media update on the X platform that officers responded at around 8 p.m. to the sound of gunshots at an Agincourt commercial plaza in the Kennedy Rd.-Sheppard Ave. E. area.

Officers located a female who had been shot.

CP24 reported that the victim suffered life-threatening injuries.

The outlet also reported that two people were taken to hospital — the other with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said one person was taken into custody, but additional suspects are outstanding and possibly fled in a vehicle.

An hour earlier, cops said there was a large police presence in the same area for an ongoing police investigation.

Per CP24, a Toronto Police spokesperson said the shooting was unrelated to the earlier incident.

In that incident, York Regional Police reportedly followed a stolen vehicle from Markham to Bonis and Sheppard Aves., where officers tried to stop it.

York cops said there was an interaction and an officer fired their gun, striking the lone occupant of the vehicle and who was taken to hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

Police said there were road closures at Kennedy Rd. between Cardwell Ave. and Havendale Rd. Marilyn Ave. was closed, and Cardwell was closed east of Kennedy.
