Emer Mezzetti, 56, drowned Saturday night after falling through the ice at Big Island Pond, New Hampshire State Police said.
The body of a missing woman was recovered Sunday morning from Big Island Pond in Hampstead, N.H, New Hampshire State Police said.
Emer Mezzetti, 56, of Atkinson, N.H., was initially confirmed missing the night before after first responders began a search for her.
Investigators determined that Mezzetti drowned around 6 p.m. Saturday night after falling through the ice, according to a press release from State Police.
“First responders from various communities attempted rescue efforts but were ultimately unsuccessful,” State Police said.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s Dive Team recovered Mezzetti’s body around 10 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Marine Patrol officers, members of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, and police and fire officials from the surrounding area all responded just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday. First responders were called to Chase Island Road in Atkinson after receiving reports of someone yelling for help. The search was later suspended until daylight hours, according to the press release.
