The Mumbai police Wednesday registered an FIR against the wife of a 28-year-old man who allegedly died by suicide in Chunabhatti on April 18. Police said the deceased, Siddhant Ratne, son of a retired police constable, left behind a note in which he blamed his wife and her friend for driving him to died by suicide. The two accused are absconding.
As per the FIR, Siddhant was found dead at his Chunabhatti residence on April 18. Soon after the incident, his parents, including his father Yadav Ratne, who retired from Mumbai Police in November 2024, came to the city from Yavatmal where they were residing. They took Siddhant’s body to their native place where the last rites were carried out.
On May 17, Yadav received a letter sent by Siddhant in which the latter mentioned the alleged harassment by his wife. Yadav further said that in spite of being aware of her relationship with a friend, he did not seek divorce as he was concerned about their two-year-old daughter.
Siddhant’s father then returned to Mumbai to check his son’s phone. Here he found a video shot by Siddhant before he died by suicide, in which he asked his father to “not spare” his wife Mansi, her friend Yuvraj Jadhav, and another of their friend who allegedly drove him to suicide.
Yadav also found a photograph of the letter in which he mentioned that Mansi and Jadhav were having a relationship, which drove him to suicide. He also found chats between his son and Jadhav, in which the latter allegedly told him that he was having an affair with his wife and said: “You kill yourself, I will take care of her.”
Yadav further alleged that he found chats between his son and daughter-in-law in which she claims to have relationship with three persons.
Yadav approached the local Chunabhatti police station with this evidence. His statement was recorded and the police registered an abetment to suicide case against Mansi and Jadhav.
