Pep Guardiola was adamant his Man City side should have had a penalty.

Pep Guardiola was left to fume on the touchline after Manchester City were denied an early penalty during their Premier League showdown with Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime.

City, who went 2-0 down at home to Oliver Glasner’s team, felt Omar Marmoush was held back by Chris Richards as he raced through on goal at the Etihad Stadium.

After getting that strike away, VAR chose to take a look at the incident, but decided there was no further reason for a further on-field check from referee Jarred Gillett.

Ally McCoist, commentating on the match live for TNT Sports, shared the same frustrations as Guardiola – feeling that City were hard done by to not be awarded a spot-kick.

“Richards actually fouls him and pulls him back on the right shoulder,” began the Scot. “It puts him off. It might not be enough to give him a penalty – but it probably should be.

“As a striker going through on goal, he’s put off that finish. Make no mistake about it.

“As soft as that might look, that is a penalty for me. Watch the right arm, I don’t care what anybody says that puts the forward off enough not to get a natural finish.

“That is a major talking point. A lot of people will say there’s not a lot in it, but it is enough to have a serious effect on the finish for me.”

Guardiola, in the aftermath, was spotted racing towards the fourth official to make his own point.

Goals from Eberechi Eze and Richards put Palace two up in a high-octane start. However, by 35 minutes City were able to level up the scores through Kevin De Bruyne and Marmoush.
