A $1.50 item with hundreds of five–star reviews from IKEA has been flying off the shelves for brilliantly solving a common dilemma many face.
The Variera waste bin has been wildly popular among Aussie shoppers thanks to its perfect design for sorting, storing and recycling rubbish.
Not only is it used for garbage, but many shoppers have also revealed they’ve turned it into an organisational storage solution for other items around their home, including wrapping paper, reusable shopping bags, toilet rolls or even baby nappies.
One of the best features of the wall-mountable bin is it can be stored behind a cupboard door or underneath the kitchen sink – ideal for those living in small spaces or looking to keep their trash out of sight.
Made from 100 per cent recycled plastic, the best-selling lightweight bin has received over 385 five–star reviews, boasting an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars.
‘I have a couple of these now, but the main one is fixed inside the cupboard door, under the kitchen sink. Perfect location for hiding the trash. Love it,’ one said.
‘This wonderful bin fits perfectly inside our kitchen under sink cupboard. Easy to assembly and fits many sizes of rubbish bag,’ another raved.
‘I use this for my kitchen garbage. It’s stuck to the inside of my kitchen cupboard below the sink. Works just the way I was hoping it would,’ one added.

One customer pointed out the bin can be attached to the cupboard door or wall with double sided tape without the need of tools or nails.
‘Bought as an after–thought but turned out to be most useful purchase. Fits perfectly to inside of kitchen sink cabinet. Adhesive tape included so strong I’ve not needed any screws,’ the shopper said.
‘I use it as a recycling bin for all paper, plastic and tin waste, and the size is perfect for my needs (holds much more than imagined). Surprisingly perfect.’
Meanwhile, many said they’ve been using the ‘brilliant little space saver’ for things other than what it was originally designed for.
‘I’m using this for something other than its original purpose – and I can’t complain. It’s sturdy, easy to construct and I like the size too,’ one shared.
‘I used this for standing up wrapping paper rolls and keeping them all together neatly,’ another revealed.
‘Nice price and very useful for organising. I’ve now bought three of these. Two I have attached inside my wardrobe door for dirty laundry, the other I’ve attached inside a kitchen cabinet door to store cling wraps, foil and sandwich bags etc. I’m planning to buy a few more to maximise storage in my bathroom and laundry cabinets,’ one said.
‘Love this, as a crafter, I use them for storing my rolls of vinyl and also has a hold all and another as a scrap paper bin. Love them, very versatile,’ another raved.

Meanwhile one parent shared that the bin has been the perfect solution for keeping toilet rolls organised – and off the floor – in the bathroom.
‘It takes quite a lot of toilet rolls to fill this basket. The up point is that it’s wall mountable and easily holds six regular rolls of loo paper,’ the parent said.
‘So it did solve two problems with the kids – not replacing the roll when they change out an empty and wetting the toilet paper when they don’t close the shower curtain properly.’
As part of the retailer’s commitment to reducing prices to ease the cost-of-living squeeze, the item is currently on sale for $1.50 – down from $3.
