THANKSGIVING can be expensive with all the holiday dishes to prepare, but you don’t have to break the bank this year.

Many grocery stores, organizations, and churches are offering free turkeys to help families celebrate without the financial strain.

With Thanksgiving less than a week away, Americans are busy gathering ingredients to whip up a festive meal.

From mashed potatoes and stuffing to cornbread to green beans, the list of staple Thanksgiving dishes seems endless.

And of course, Thanksgiving wouldn’t be complete without a ham or turkey as the centerpiece.

Although the cost of prepping a holiday spread can add up quickly, you might not need to spend a dime on your turkey this year.

FREE TURKEY – GROCERY STORES

Shoppers across America will be opening their wallets as they prepare for Thanksgiving.

The good news is that many grocery stores are offering deals where spending a certain amount can earn you a free turkey.

Acme Market:

Acme has 159 locations across the US.

Customers who spend $300 or more on groceries before next Thursday will receive a coupon for a free Signature Farms frozen turkey.

Foodtown:

Many US retailers and grocery stores will close around Thanksgiving

Foodtown is a cooperative with 66 independently owned grocery stores.

The chain is rewarding shoppers who spend $400 on a Foodtown Club Card a free store-brand turkey.

Giant Food Stores:

This grocery chain has around 200 locations across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Consumers who earn 400 reward points – by spending $400 – before Thanksgiving will receive a free turkey.

Hy-Vee:

There are 285 Hy-Vee stores across eight Midwestern states.

Shoppers who buy a Hormel Cure 81 ham will receive a free Honeysuckle White frozen turkey through the end of November.

ShopRite:

ShopRite has 313 locations across six Northeast states.

Those who spend at least $400 on their ShopRite Price Plus Club Card by Thanksgiving will receive a free Bowl & Basket turkey, Cook’s smoked ham, Empire roasting chicken, or Stouffer’s lasagna.

Weis Markets:

There are 200 Weis Markets across seven eastern states.

Shoppers who earn 400 points by November 28 will get either a turkey, turkey breast, bone-in ham, Tofurky’s vegan ham, or Tofurky’s vegan turkey roast free of charge.

WinCo Foods:

WinCo Foods is an employee-owned grocery store with locations in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

Customers who spend $125 in a single purchase by November 27 will get a free Honeysuckle White or Jennie-O Turkey.

FREE TURKEY – ORGANIZATIONS IN TEXAS

Several organizations across San Antonio, Texas are also handing out free turkeys before the holiday on a a first-come, first-served basis.

Gospel Vision:

The ministry is hosting its 21st annual Thanksgiving Giveaway on November 23 from 10 AM to 12:45 PM.

They will be giving out 1,000 free turkeys as well as free haircuts and school supplies.

Each family can receive one turkey.

The event will be held at Comanche Park, located at 2600 Rigsby Avenue.

Malouff International Group: 

The group will be hosting its first Gobble and Give Drive on November 23 beginning at 10 AM.

200 free turkeys and pies will be given away at the drive-thru event.

It will take place at Prestige Motor Sports, located at 9711 Plymouth Road.

New Life Christian Center: 

The center will host the free turkey giveaway on November 23.

The event will take place from 9 AM to 11 AM at 6610 West US Highway 90.

Attendees must be present to receive the turkey and can receive one turkey per family.

Samuel Clemens High School:

The San Antonio Food Bank will host a food distribution event from 9 AM to 11 AM on November 23 at 1001 Elbel Road in Schertz.

Those planning on attending can register for the event on Facebook.

FREE TURKEY – ORGANIZATIONS IN NYC

Residents of New York City can also score free turkeys before Thanksgiving Day.

Several organizations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens are handing out free turkeys to help families celebrate the holiday.

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation:

On November 22, the foundation is handing out turkeys in Manhattan while supplies last.

The giveaway is taking place at 8 East 109th Street in Manhattan.

Jim Jones:

Jim Jones will hand out free turkeys in Harlem with his nonprofit VampCares on a first-come-first-serve basis. 

The turkeys will be given out at 57 Malcolm X Boulevard on November 23 from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Councilmember Sandy Nurse:

From 10 AM to 12 PM on November 23, Councilmember Sandy Nurse will hand out free turkeys at 56 Pennsylvania Avenue in Brooklyn.

Turkeys will be given out to people who RSVP between 10 and 11 AM, then on a first-come-first-serve basis from 11 AM to 12 PM. 

Councilmember Crystal Hudson:

On November 23, Councilmember Crystal Hudson will hand out free turkeys at a resource fair. 

The event will take place from 11 AM to 2 PM at 260 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.

Bay Ridge Community Development Center:

Turkeys will be given out at the Bay Ridge Community Development Center on a first-come-first-serve basis on November 23.

The giveaway will start at 11 AM at 9818 Fort Hamilton Parkway in Brooklyn.

Thanksgiving Drive:

As part of the Finish the Plan Thanksgiving Drive, families can score non-perishable foods, turkeys, and canned goods.

The food drive will take place on November 22 from 12 PM to 4 PM at 227-12A Merrick Boulevard in Queens.

Amazin’ Mets Foundation:

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation is hosting a second event in Queens.

On November 22 beginning at 3 PM, the foundation will hand out turkeys while supplies last.

The event will be held at 162-04 Tuskegee Airmen Way.

Councilmember Joann Ariola:

On November 27, Councilmember Joann Ariola will hand out pre-cooked meals for families of four.

Families can register by calling 718-738-1083.

The event will take place from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at 93-06 101 Avenue in Queens.
