WhatsApp’s Individual Chats Are Getting An Upgrade from Group Chats

WhatsApp is looking to compete with Google Calendar by introducing event scheduling in one-on-one chats. Previously, the event feature was only available in group chats and communities, but now, WhatsApp has started rolling it out to some beta testers on the latest WhatsApp beta version from the Google Play Store.

What Does Events Do?

The new addition allows users to schedule and manage events directly within their chats without relying on external calendar apps. If two colleagues have a common deadline, they can simply create an event in their WhatsApp chat and both will receive reminders simultaneously. WhatsApp also allows linking events to video or voice calls, making it easier to set up scheduled meetings within the app.

When a user creates an event, the invited recipient can either accept or decline the invitation. This feature should help eliminate the need for cumbersome scheduling applications, like Google Calendar, allowing users to manage their events with ease and efficiency.

Availability

As with all WhatsApp beta features, this rollout will take time. It could be weeks or even months before the feature exits beta and becomes widely available. However, now that testing has begun, it is only a matter of time before users worldwide gain access to this new scheduling tool.

In any case, keep your WhatsApp up to date to keep up with the latest updates.
