Robert Pattinson stars as Mickey, an employee who signs up to become an “Expendable” in Bong Joon-ho’s comedic sci-fi movie Mickey 17. Warner Bros. released the second trailer this morning, teasing the myriad of ways in which Pattinson’s character will die for his job.
The theatrical release date is now set for March 7, 2025.
In the upcoming movie written and directed by Bong Joon Ho, “An unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living.”
Toni Collette, Steven Yeun, Mark Ruffalo and Naomi Ackie also star in Mickey 17, based on based on the novel Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton. Bong Joon-Ho writes and directs.
Mickey 17 has officially been rated “R” for “violent content, language throughout, sexual content, and drug material.“ Some of that violence is on display in the film’s second trailer below, which features a hapless Mickey thrust into bizarre scenarios that usually lead to a shocking demise.
The film is produced by Oscar winners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner (Moonlight, 12 Years a Slave), Bong Joon-ho and Dooho Choi (Okja, Snowpiercer). The executive producers are Brad Pitt, Jesse Ehrman, Peter Dodd, and Marianne Jenkins.
The talent behind the camera is just as stacked. The director of photography is Oscar nominee Darius Khondji, and production design was handled by Oscar nominee Fiona Crombie. It is edited by Parasite’s Yang Jinmo. The visual effects supervisor is Dan Glass, and Bong Joon-Ho reteams with costume designer Catherine George (Okja, Snowpiercer). “Squid Game“ composer Jung Jaeil handled the music.
While the sci-fi comedy has shifted around quite a bit on the release schedule, the official second trailer indicates the new date is sticking for good. In just over a month, we’ll finally get to see Pattinson’s Mickey dying to save mankind. Over and over, it appears, which sounds like a fun time.
