Josh Giddey buried a miracle shot from beyond halfcourt at the final buzzer as the Chicago Bulls overturned an 18-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 119-117 on Thursday night. The Associated Press reported, “Giddey’s buzzer-beating halfcourt heave capped what might be the wildest finish in the NBA this season.” The moment was met with some wild celebrations.
The Bulls trailed 115-110 with 12.6 seconds remaining before delivering down the stretch with a wild sequence of plays.
Patrick Williams hit a 3-pointer to trim the deficit back to two points before Giddey, who moments earlier had airballed a floater, stole LeBron James’ inbound pass.

Giddey flicked the pass to Coby White, who drained a trey to put Chicago in front 116-115 with 6.1 seconds to play. The Lakers retrieved the lead on an Austin Reaves layup with 3.3 seconds on the clock, before the Bulls, who had no timeouts left, struck at the buzzer. Giddey passed the inbound to Williams, who gave it straight back, and the Australian nailed the game-winning 47-foot prayer over James.
“Devastation,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said. “It’s a hell of a way to lose a basketball game.” It was a rollercoaster 24 hours for Lakers as they went from winning at Indiana on a tip-in by LeBron James at the buzzer on Wednesday to losing in gut-wrenching fashion.
Giddey held his follow-through right until the shot fell through the net, giving the Bulls their ninth win in 11 games and setting off one wild celebration. “We’ve shown over the last month to six weeks that we can beat anybody,” Giddey said. “The way we play the game, I think it wears people down. We get up and down. We run. We put heat on them to get back.”
