A man was rescued after falling off a 20-foot cliff in Laguna Beach on Saturday.

While the exact location was not disclosed, a social media post published Sunday by Laguna Beach Lifeguards indicates that the rescue efforts were hampered by ocean conditions and terrain and also required resources from other agencies.

“High tide and sizable waves created unstable footing and made a traditional exit too dangerous,” the social media post states. “Long Beach Fire Department paramedics stabilized the patient on scene and Orange County Fire Authority’s Firehawk helicopter completed a hoist rescue to transport him for further medical treatment.”

The 38-year-old man who was rescued was said to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Video included in the Instagram post shows the helicopter rescue, with several first responders standing along the rugged coastline to ensure the man got safely out.

The post also included a message of caution to beachgoers.

“Laguna Beach’s coastline is beautiful and fun to explore, but it demands caution,” Laguna Beach Lifeguards said. “The rocks are slick, unstable, and often unpredictable. Always check in with a lifeguard before venturing near the cliffs or exploring the rocky shore.”
