The weather outlook is sunny and hot for the long weekend, and Environment Canada has confirmed the expected arrival of wildfire smoke starting later Saturday and through Sunday’s Ironman-Ottawa competition.
The federal agency sent an alert Saturday, cautioning “local smoke” could be an issue over the next two days.
So far, the air quality health index outlook was for “5-moderate risk” through the day Saturday, rising to a “7-high risk” Saturday night and on Sunday.
Sunday’s weather forecast is for hot, humid conditions and a high temperature of 30 C and the humidex calculation making it feel like 33.
But, while the forecast is for sun, there’s also a caution for “local smoke in the morning and early in the afternoon.”
For Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the outlook is for high temperatures of around 29 C, with some cloud.
So far, no precipitation is expected during that time frame.
