UP: Bareilly woman, who ‘faked her abduction, gangrape’, arrested along with 2 others | India News

Bareilly police have arrested a 43-year-old woman for allegedly staging a false abduction and gangrape case by getting a bullet implanted in her shoulder with the help of a quack, in an attempt to frame local residents and extort money from them.

Police have also arrested a 50-year-old quack, identified as Sharafat Khan, and woman’s 48-year-old associate, Rohtas, who is ward boy at a government hospital in Bareilly.

The woman and two other accused were produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody, said Superintendent of Police, Bareilly, Manush Pareek. The police have booked the three persons on charges of extortion, cheating and criminal conspiracy. Police are also invoking the Arms Act against the accused, he added.

Police said that during the investigation, it came to light that the woman had planned to falsely implicate a public representative and others to extort money from them. She intended to frame them using the same method she had employed in a gangrape case she lodged in 2022.
As part of the plan, she approached three doctors, requesting them to implant a bullet in her shoulder. When all of them refused, she allegedly turned to a quack, who agreed to carry out the procedure in exchange for Rs 2,500.

The police added that the 50-year-old ward boy, who was allegedly involved in the planning, had procured the bullet that was later implanted in the woman’s shoulder.

According to the police, after receiving information on March 29 that a woman had been shot, a team reached the spot and took her to the hospital for treatment. The woman claimed that five men abducted her in a car while she was on her way to a medical store, raped her, and shot her before leaving her injured.

During the investigation, police examined her call records and collected CCTV footage, which allegedly showed the woman arriving at the spot on her own and using her phone continuously, casting doubt on her statement. Her medical report also raised suspicion, as there was no entry wound—suggesting that the bullet was placed under the skin rather than fired.

During the investigation, police looked into the woman’s background and found that she had made similar allegations in 2022, including claims of being shot at.
