The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with action-packed blockbusters, but this 2015 superhero film is a rare small-scale action thriller that’s perfect for a rewatch

BBC iPlayer is currently showcasing one of the most cherished films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it won’t be available for much longer.

This compact action thriller from 2015 features a well-loved comedic actor from Hollywood stepping into the shoes of a reformed criminal who eventually becomes a dependable hero in the Avengers’ line-up.

A decade later, this pioneering superhero film, boasting one of the most distinctive characters in Marvel’s extensive catalogue, continues to hold high esteem among comic book enthusiasts, making it worth revisiting.

Regrettably, Ant-Man, featuring Paul Rudd, will only be accessible on iPlayer for the next eight days, providing viewers with a brief opportunity to enjoy this spectacular film completely free of charge.

The plot unfolds as Scott Lang (portrayed by Rudd) is released from prison and forms an unexpected alliance with Dr Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who is determined to prevent his perilous shrinking technology from landing in the wrong hands, reports the Mirror.

However, Pym’s unstable former protégé, Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), has created his own shrinking suit known as the Yellowjacket, which could cause unimaginable chaos.

With the latest MCU venture, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to premiere on the big screen later this week, now is the ideal time to revisit one of Marvel’s more understated superhero successes.

One fan enthused in a glowing five-star Google review: “Ant-Man is BY FAR one of the most entertaining, funny, and heartwarming movies in the MCU – I’m thinking it’s my favorite!

“I went into the movie not expecting much but Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) was so easy to like and hilarious.

“My family had such a great time watching this underrated classic. It was fast-paced, had good character development, a simple storyline, didn’t take itself too seriously but managed to HIT A HOME RUN, and did I mention funny as hell?”

Another effused: “I love this movie with all my heart. It’s funny, interesting, heroic and one of the funniest at Marvel Studios.”
