The threat level of a bushfire in an outer-southern Perth suburb has been downgraded after residents were earlier urged to leave.
A watch and act warning was in place tonight for people east of Bakewell Drive and west of Ennis Avenue in Port Kennedy.
About 45 firefighters were fighting the blaze and conducting backburning operations for a the uncontrolled and uncontained fire that had already tore through 22 hectares of land.
Nearby residents were urged to stay alert and monitor the situation as conditions could change.
They were also urged to keep doors and windows closed, turn off air conditioners but keep water running and patrol their properties to prevent embers from entering their homes.
“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive,” the Department of Fire and Emergency Services warning said.
“There is a threat to lives and homes.”
Port Kennedy Drive between Bakewell Drive and Ennis Avenue was shut and motorists were urged to avoid the area.
The fire was first reported at 1.38pm local time (4.38pm AEDT) today.
