UK snow maps show the country shifting to a purple and white hue – with an 7CM AN HOUR Arctic blast set to hit. Major flurries are set to sweep across the country in a three-day period early next month, as March brings with it 7cm per hour.

New weather maps from WX Charts show a wintry shift across Scotland from midday on March 7. More than half of England and much of Wales will find itself in the firing line on March 8, with weather models showing white stretching all the way down the country.

Up to 7cm of snow is set to fall within an hour across Yorkshire on the morning of March 9, the maps show. Looking ahead from Monday 3 March to Sunday 9 March, the BBC Weather team expects it to be “unsettled, initially colder”.

The Beeb states: “In the first full week of March the weather will probably still be relatively wet and windy. It could become slightly milder than average but short-term fluctuations are still possible. Furthermore, any cold snap could initially last bringing the chance of some wintry precipitation, especially across Northern Ireland and Scotland.

“Later this week, the unsettled and windy conditions might continue, with temperatures perhaps slightly above average for this time of the year. A cooler or colder risk remains for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Intense low pressure systems could also pass through along with the risk of disruptive weather.”

Monday 10 March to Sunday 23 March will be “generally more settled”, with the Beeb adding: “The general weather pattern in early March could continue until the middle of the month with predominantly wet, windy and rather mild conditions. Nonetheless, southern areas are more prone to drier and calmer spells as March progresses. A weather regime change in mid-March is still not in sight, which is consistent with some sub-seasonal signals.

“Nonetheless, such a change in the pattern seems possible beyond mid-March, as a high- pressure zone will develop over continental Europe or near the United Kingdom. Even a Scandinavian high pressure seems possible. In view of this conditions could eventually calm down. However, given the lead time confidence remains low. Temperatures in this case could be close to average. Nevertheless, the northern parts could experience more wind and precipitation.”
