Chad Chronister, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration, said Tuesday that he would withdraw his name from consideration for the post.
Chronister, who serves as sheriff in Hillsborough County, Florida, announced his plans to turn down the nomination in a post on X on Tuesday evening.
“To have been nominated by President-Elect @realDonaldTrump to serve as Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration is the honor of a lifetime,” Chronister wrote. “Over the past several days, as the gravity of this very important responsibility set in, I’ve concluded that I must respectfully withdraw from consideration.”
Chronister cited ongoing work that’s needed in serving the people of Hillsborough County “and a lot of initiatives I am committed to fulfilling.”
Trump announced his intention to nominate Chronister to serve as the next DEA administrator on Saturday.
A spokesperson for Trump’s transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
