President Donald Trump is currently giving an address to a joint session of Congress, his first message to both chambers of the legislature since taking office for the second time.

The address arrives amid a contentious moment for the president after he enacted 25 percent sweeping Mexico andCanada,.

In excerpts of his remarks released ahead of time by the White House, Trump says he is “fighting every day” to lower prices for consumers in spite of the onset of the trade war and promised to tariff other countries what they tariff the U.S.

He also promises more mining of critical minerals, to expand energy production, and takes a victory lap about dramatically lowering illegal crossings at the border. Further to that he says he has sent a funding request to Congress to carry out the largest deportation operation in U.S. history.

The president also takes a jab at European allies, saying they spend more on Russian oil and gas than on defending Ukraine, while the U.S. carries the burden. Trump says he is working “tirelessly” to end the war.

There were protests from Democrats who held up signs and jeered falsehoods. Rep Al Green was removed by the Sergeant at Arms, while others walked out.

Trump returns to ‘no tax on tips promise’

Donald Trump returns to his campaign promise of “no tax on tips, social security and overtime.”

However, as Eric Garcia writes, the very bill he supports makes this mathematically impossible.

Trump turns to the topic of the day — Tariffs

Whatever they tariff us, we tariff them. Whatever they tax us, we tax them. If they do non-monetary tariffs to keep us out of their market, then we do non-monetary barriers to keep them out of our market. We will take in trillions of dollars and create jobs like we have never seen before.

Green says worth letting people know people will stand up to Trump

Rep. Al Green made a surprise stop at the White House traveling press hold after he was kicked out of the House chamber for protesting Trump’s speech.

Green took a few questions.

The Texas Democrat said that before he was escorted out of the chamber he repeatedly yelled at Trump that the president had “no mandate” to cut Medicaid.

“It’s worth it to let people know that there are some people who are going to stand up” to Trump, Green said.

He said he didn’t know whether he faced any formal punishment for his protest in the chamber.

Trump blames Biden for economic problems and inflations — including the price of eggs

Here’s that moment from the president’s speech:

Among my very highest priorities is to rescue our economy and get dramatic and immediate relief to working families. As you know, we inherited, from the last administration, an economic catastrophe and an inflation nightmare. Their policies drove up energy prices, pushed up the cost of groceries, and drove the necessities of life out of reach for millions of Americans. We suffered the worst inflation in 48 years, but perhaps even in the history of our country. As President, I am fighting every day to reverse this damage and Make America AFFORDABLE Again

Joe Biden especially let the price of EGGS get out of control—and we are working hard to get it back down. A major focus of our fight to defeat inflation is rapidly reducing the cost of energy. The previous administration cut the number of new oil and gas leases by 95%, slowed pipeline construction to a halt, and closed more than 100 power plants. We have never seen anything like it.

That is why on my first day in office, I declared a National ENERGY Emergency.

Jeering from Democrats continued throughout, they held up signs, and some walked out wearing shirts that read: “RESIST.”

My administration is also working on a gigantic natural gas pipeline in Alaska, among the largest in the world, where Japan, South Korea, and other nations want to be our partner—with trillions of dollars being spent by them. It will truly be spectacular.

Later this week, I will also take historic action to dramatically expand production of Critical Minerals and Rare Earths here in USA.

Trump says there is nothing he could do to make Democrats applaud him

President Trump says: “This is my fifth such speech to Congress, and once again, I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud. Nothing I can do.”
