Aikman and the Cowboys dominated the 1990s – winning three Super Bowls.

And the 1989 No. 1 overall pick can thank Johnson, who won two of those Super Bowls, consecutively.

Over the weekend, Aikman paid tribute to the former coach with the caption,” #winner” on social media.

Aikman posted a clip of a documentary featuring Johnson’s time with the Cowboys on his Instagram story.

The video showed multiple players who shared glowing things to say about the 81-year-old.

“When it comes to moving men, there was no one better than coach Johnson,” former Dallas wide receiver star Michael Irvin said in the trailer of the documentary.

Aikmen even opened up about his ex-coach and friend.

“There wasn’t a minute that I was around him the two years that I played for him, that I and everyone on the football team didn’t know who the head coach was,” he said.

Aikman’s words about Johnson come after a worrying appearance while he was on the call of the Baltimore Ravens’ Week 12 road win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

During the game, fans noticed that the ESPN color commentator appeared to have bruised eyelids.

Aikman had marks around his eyes and it seemed there was dried blood on his eyelids.

The 58-year-old continued to call the game between the Ravens and Chargers.

Aikman didn’t reveal any updates on the fans’ concerns and has continued to analyze the Monday primetime games alongside Joe Buck.

The NFL Hall of Famer quarterback dealt with concussion and back injuries late in his Hall of Famer career which forced an early retirement.

Aikman has been an announcer for ESPN since the 2022 season.

He and Buck both left Fox for ESPN before that campaign.

As for Johnson, he joined Fox NFL Sunday after his NFL coaching career ended in 2000.

This year, Johnson has seemingly rotated with New England Patriots icon Rob Gronkowski on the Fox NFL Sunday program.

Gronk filled in for Johnson in the Week 14 edition of the show.
