Zendaya and Tom Holland’s holiday engagement is the Hollywood fairytale romance that’s captured the hearts of romantics everywhere – but confirmation of the news from Tom’s father has raised eyebrows.

News of the engagement emerged after the Golden Globes last week following much speculation about her jewelry on the red carpet with eagle-eyed fans noticing she debuted stunning new bling – on her ring finger.

While fans are thrilled for the happy couple – who met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017 – they couldn’t help but find it strange the news was confirmed by Tom Holland’s father, Dominic, via his Patreon blog.

Dominic posted confirmation of his 28-year-old son’s engagement to his Patreon, a site for creatives where readers pay for subscriptions.

‘The engagement has now been confirmed and why I am writing about it here but without adding anything new and juicy like a date, venue, guest list,’ the father-of-four wrote in the December 10 post that cost $4 to read.

While fans loved the details in the post – like the fact Tom asked Zendaya’s father for permission – many were amused by the fact Dominic had a Patreon at all and rushed to question why.

‘Need to know who is subscribing to Tom Holland’s father’s Patreon,’ one confused fan wrote to X, formerly known as Twitter.

‘Sorry quick question, why does Tom Holland’s dad have a Patreon?’ asked another.

‘Why does Tom Holland’s father have a Patreon,’ another blunt response read.

‘This no shade for real but who the hell is paying for Tom Holland’s dad’s Patreon,’ another responded.

‘Why does Tom Holland’s dad have a Patreon like is the whole family helping pay off the ring or does that Spiderman money not get passed around?’ joked another X user.

According to Dominic’s post, he launched his blog during lockdown.

‘Like many “artists” I came to Patreon during lockdown when our sage politicians shut down the world and my diary emptied, and my income plunged to zero,’ he wrote.

He added he’s ‘sufficiently self-aware’ as to why many people may subscribe to his blog.

‘Most of my patrons arrive vicariously, my skill being whether I can retain them or not. Many arrivals hoping for titbits on Tom last only a month and must accept their loss of $2 – which is the least I can charge btw,’ he quipped.

The comedian and writer did delve into some of the engagement details, revealing Tom was ‘very incredibly well prepared’ to pop the question to his longtime girlfriend.

‘He had purchased a ring. He had spoken with her father and gained permission to propose to his daughter,’ he wrote. ‘Tom had everything planned out.’

He sly added his own proposal to his wife Nikki was not we well thought out or planned.

‘My own proposal [was] nothing like my eldest son who has obviously watched all the slushy movies because growing up I never saw him reading a book,’ he joked in the blog post.

He added: ‘For most blokes, the stress of purchasing an engagement ring is being able to afford it. I suspect that this was the least of Tom’s worries, more concerned with the stone, it’s size and clarity, its housing, which jeweler…’

Earlier in the week, Zendaya’s father, Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, denied a report that suggested Tom had asked him for his daughter’s hand in marriage before the proposal.

When reached for comment about his reaction to Zendaya, 28, getting engaged to Tom, Kazembe told DailyMail.com that it was ‘a bunch of crap’ that was reported.

‘That was a bunch of crap dealt out by TMZ,’ he said before adding, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’

When pried by a DailyMail.com reporter for more answers, he refused to comment further.

The Euphoria star’s new cushion-cut five-carat diamond is set on a 18k white and yellow gold band.

The ring is said to be by the fashionable New Zealand-born and London-based jeweler, Jessica McCormack, and estimated to be worth over $200,000.
