One of Britain’s ‘narrowest’ homes which was built in a former alleyway has been put up for sale. The unique property named Doll’s House cottage is ‘shaped like an iron’ and spans just three foot wide at its thinnest point.

The house, which sits on Claremont Terrace in Porthleven, Cornwall, was constructed in the passage between two existing houses. The ground floor is around 180 square foot, whilst the first floor is a tad smaller at 159 square metres, bringing the total living space to 339 square foot.

The narrow house is now on the market boasting a guide price of £235,000. Estate agency Mather Partnership who is handling the sale, describes the one-bedroom home with sea views as offering a “delightful blend of character and modern living”.

The listing says: “With its quirky design, the property is well presented throughout, making it an inviting space for those looking to get away to the coast.

“Utilised as a holiday let by our current clients, one of the standout features of this lovely cottage is the incredible sea views that can be enjoyed from various vantage points within the home. This property truly embodies the essence of coastal living.”

A block of flats in Bristol are also amongst Britain’s ‘skinniest’ homes. The building in Fishponds stretches just three foot wide and looks almost ‘uninhabitable’.

Many locals have been left confused as to who lives inside, with some comparing the property to looking like the famous Flatiron Building in New York City.

Back in March 2022 the M.E.N also reported on a tiny terraced house in Greater Manchester that was so narrow that passers-by can barely even notice it.

The tiny two-bed property in Rochdale, which is half the size of the average terrace home, was put on the market for £100,000 but has since sold.
