Over 240 people are confirmed to have died in the tragic incident
This Morning have paid tribute to an ‘energetic’ star, who previously appeared on the programme, who lost his life in the Air India plane crash
Over 240 people are confirmed to have died after a Gatwick Airport-bound plane crashed in India.
Air India Flight 171 came down shortly after its take-off from Ahmedabad Airport on Thursday (June 12) afternoon.
With one passenger, a British man, surviving the crash, Air India have confirmed that 241 of the 242 people on board the Boeing 787 Dreamliner were killed.
Footage of the crash showed the plane crashing down just minutes after take-off in the residential Meghani Nagar area at 1.38pm local time
Among those who died in the crash was Fiongal Greenlaw, who previously appeared as a guest on ITV talk show This Morning.
39-year-old Fiongal was on holiday in India with his husband, Jamie Meek, 45, with the pair sharing a video of them in the airport moments before boarding the plane.
Fiongal, who was the co-founder of a wellness brand with Jamie, first appeared on This Morning in January.
Providing a reading of Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard’s auras, Fiongal was back on the programme in April, serving as a spiritual advisor.
At the beginning of Friday’s (June 13) of This Morning, Dermot O’Leary said Fiongal was on the show ‘twice this year’ and told viewers they ‘sadly lost him’.
Saying he ‘loved his energy’, Dermot said: “The couple posted videos online just before boarding and our thoughts and prayers go to their loved ones and all those affected by this terrible tragedy.”
Dermot’s tribute arrives after former This Morning editor Martin Frizell shared a photo of Fiongal with Ben and Cat on social media.
“So so sad to hear that Fiongal Greenlaw Meek and his partner are reported to be among the passengers and crew killed today on board the Air India flight bound for Gatwick.
“I remember his visit to the studio in January, he was passionate about auras and although I’m a sceptical sort his vibrancy and sheer enthusiasm won folk over.
“And I know for a fact that he hoped to use his appearance on This Morning to build his Wellness brand, he had a great future ahead of him. Thoughts are with his family and friends and those of his partner Jamie,” he wrote.
