The work is part of a new operation by GMP
A fake gun has been found stashed away in a bag in Salford after police received a tip-off from locals.
The imitation firearm was recovered by officers working on a new operation in Little Hulton who found it in an area off Parkway on Monday night (February 17). It came after the officers from Greater Manchester Police received intelligence from the local community.
The work comes as part of a ‘partnership operation’ targeting serious crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.
Thanks to intelligence gathered as part of this operation, officers attended the scene, located the item in a bag, and were able to recover it.
GMP says imitation firearms can be used to threaten people, utilised as a weapon in robberies, or used in an otherwise illegal manner.
The local team are continuing to encourage local residents to report all suspicious activity to them, claiming all reports are ‘investigated and actioned’.
Detective Inspector Rebecca McGuigan, from GMP’s Challenger team, said: “A lot of the positive results we see in our day-to-day work come as a result of tip-offs from people in the community – which is exactly what has happened here.
“In this case, we recovered an imitation firearm, but next time, it could be a viable and deadly firearm, a huge knife, illicit drugs or anything else that needs to be taken off the streets and away from the community.
“Our new operation in Little Hulton is continuing to produce results and I would urge anyone who has information to please get in touch with us. Even the smallest amount of information could lead to the recovery of an illegal weapon or arrest of a dangerous individual – which is what we are constantly aiming to do.”
