In the world of entertainment, sometimes, celebrities don’t wish to be actors and yet, end up as one. The actress we are talking about had an army background and hence, had no strong ties to the film industry. However, after she made her debut in 1983, she reached another level of stardom and became a very successful actress. The actor is Amrita Singh.

The actress and her successful acting career

Interestingly, Amrita Singh never planned on becoming an actress, since she was the daughter of an army officer and had no ties in the film industry. However, things changed when Dharmendra came to her doorstep as he was scouting for a new face for Sunny Deol. Dharmendra visited her home and offered her a role in Betaab at first sight. In 1983, Amrita Singh made her debut in Betaab alongside Sunny Deol, which shot her to stardom overnight.

Later, she also worked with big names like Irrfan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. In an old interview, Amrita Singh revealed that her mother was initially opposed to her joining the film industry.

The actress fell for an actor 12 years younger than her

Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh first met during a photoshoot for a film in which Saif Ali Khan was making his debut. Shortly after, he invited her for dinner, but Amrita Singh invited him to her home instead. During their evening together, they bonded over and confessed their love for each other. Despite their differences, including a 12-year age gap, Amrita Singh, then 33, married Saif, 21, in 1991. Amrita Singh converted to Islam before their intimate wedding. However, after 13 years of marriage, they got divorced.

About the actress and her family

Amrita Singh appeared as a protagonist in several successful films, including Chameli Ki Shaadi (1986), Naam (1986), Thikana (1987), Toofan (1989), Dil Aashna Hai (1992), Aaina (1993) and Rang (1993). In 1993, she took a break from acting and returned with 23rd March 1931: Shaheed in 2002. While her father, Shivinder Singh Virk, was an army officer, her mother, Rukhsana Sultana, was a political associate of Sanjay Gandhi during the Indian Emergency in the 1970s. Amrita Singh was last seen in Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2 as Hema.
