Filmmaking in India is a costliest business. From production to casting, the budget of major films often runs into several crores. However, the bigger the star, the higher the budget. However, a superstar doesn’t always guarantee success or a return on that investment. Sometimes, a good story, interesting plot and the way film has been shot, such factors contribute to the film’s success. Today, we’ll talk about one such film, who despite featuring many stars, couldn’t impress audience due to its crude humour and half-baked plot.
We are talking about Sajid Khan’s directorial Humshakals. Bankrolled by Vashu Bhagnani, the film stars Saif Ali Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Tamannaah Bhatia, Esha Gupta and Bipasha Basu, with Satish Shah, Nawab Shah, Chunky Pandey, and Darshan Jariwala in supporting roles and Madhuri Dixit in cameo appearance.
Humshakals grossed Rs 86.60 core at the box office against a budget of Rs 64 crore. However, it was still considered a box office failure, receiving negative reviews from critics and audience alike.
After the film’s release and subsequent poor response, Saif Ali Khan one stated that he regret doing Sajid Khan’s Humshakals. According to Masala’s report, the actor told, “I was trying to be someone I’m not. The humor was not the kind I enjoy. My upcoming film, Happy Endings, is closer to the comedy I believe in and am known for.” He continued, The film was very regressive. In fact, while watching it, I asked myself what I was doing in it. I’ve been introspecting a lot and will never repeat a mistake that was Humshakals.”
In the film, Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor portrayed three characters, totalling overall nine roles. The music for the film was composed by Himesh Reshammiya with cinematography handled by Ravi Yadav. Humshakals was extensively shot in various international locations and was co-produced by Fox Studios.
