Texas Border Patrol shooting injures officers at McAllen facility, gunman dead

A gunman was fatally shot by law enforcement agents after he opened fire at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, on Monday morning, authorities said.

Two officers and a Border Patrol employee were injured, the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement. One of them was shot in the knee, according to the agency. All three were transported to a hospital.

The gunman “opened fire at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex” in McAllen, McLaughlin said. “Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter.”

The city of McAllen borders Mexico at Texas’ southern tip, roughly 230 miles south of San Antonio.

The FBI, which is leading the ongoing investigation into the shooting, described the suspect as an adult male. The incident is no longer an active shooter situation, and there is no threat to public safety, the FBI said in a statement.

A motive is not clear at this time.
