Tesco has revamped its delivery service this summer, a move set to benefit countless shoppers nationwide. The retailer has introduced a timely hidden perk for the season, aimed at easing the burden on busy parents and potentially cutting down on both costs and stress.

The chain has now expanded its delivery and ‘click and collect’ booking slots to eight weeks in advance, a significant increase from the previous four-week limit. This change allows customers to plan their summer meals, BBQs, picnics, and packed lunches well ahead of time, sidestepping the frantic scramble that often accompanies the holiday period, reports the Express.

In a discreet yet impactful change, Tesco has also scrapped the same-day delivery and collection surcharges at certain locations, waiving the additional £2 and £1 fees. Some see this as a pretty rare strategy for a major supermarket, especially during peak seasons.

Tesco is also catering to families opting for staycations by adding 15,000 extra click-and-collect slots at stores near top UK holiday spots. These hotspots range from coastal villages to rural retreats.

Rob Graham, Tesco’s online director, told the Retail Gazette: “Summer holidays are a busy time for all of us as we juggle family life. From days out to BBQs and picnics, we’re helping customers across the UK make the most of the summer, delivering everything they need to enjoy at home or during their holiday stay.”

The initiative is designed to alleviate pressure on shoppers. “This is a great time to plan ahead and let Tesco take some of the stress away from those summer activities by booking delivery or collection slots up to eight weeks in advance,” he commented.

“And, for those last-minute essentials, we’ve also removed same-day delivery fees in selected stores.” The supermarket’s online director mentioned that they have expanded click and collect services in popular holiday areas to “make sure we’re there when customers need us.”

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, praised the new delivery strategy, calling it a “genius” move by Tesco. He remarked: ” Booking slots early and scrapping fees is exactly the kind of savvy support families need over summer. It makes budgeting and planning easier – and stress-free.”

How much are Tesco delivery fees normally?

Standard delivery fees vary between £3 and £7, depending on your location, while click-and-collect can be free or up to £2, also depending on your location. Tesco offers a six-month anytime delivery pass for £7.99 a month, which includes same-day delivery, or you can get it for £6.99 a month if you commit to a 12-month plan.

For those interested in an off-peak pass, which applies to deliveries after 3pm, the price is £4.99 for six months or £6.99 annually. Click and collect subscribers can expect to pay £2.49 a month for a six-month plan.
