Teneo launches in Spain with new financial advisory wing

Management consultancy Teneo has rolled out a new hub in Spain, with the recruitment of two senior personnel. The launch in Madrid will complement its new wing in Latin America, opening a “seamless” service for cross border services between the two regions.

Founded in 2011, Teneois a consultancy specialising in strategic communications, investor relations, restructuring, management consulting, financial advisory, and corporate governance advisory services. With teams based principally out of London, New York and Dubai offices, the firm has been growing rapidly since its backing from CVC Capital in 2019 – most notably in restructuring.

At the end of 2024, this saw Teneo launch a new offering in the Caribbean, and in the Latin American region. Now though, the firm has announced a further international expansion, with the launch of its Spanish financial advisory business.

Kicking off its foray into Spain’s consulting market, the CEO advisory firm has hired Javier Ibáñez and Francisco Alba to lead its new office in Madrid. Meanwhile, the firm hopes to make further hires in Spain in the coming months to grow its financial advisory presence alongside other service offerings.

Alba joins as a managing director. A highly experienced restructuring practitioner, he has spent over 15 years at KPMG and Kroll. Additionally, he has M&A deal experience, having served as a director at Borealis. Ibáñez meanwhile is a leading restructuring professional with over 25 years of experience, who spent most of his career at KPMG, including 10 years as a restructuring partner, and more recently led Kroll’s restructuring business in Spain.

Ibanez, who becomes a senior managing director with Teneo Financial Advisory, commented, “There is a huge opportunity for Teneo in Spain. The firm’s integrated consulting and advisory model is a truly unique offering for clients in the Spanish market. We plan to quickly build out services ranging from crisis and insolvency situations to fundraising and supporting growth opportunities.

According to Ibanez the development aligns with Teneo’s launch in the Latam region – with a “Latam-Spain corridor” meaning the firm “can serve as the ideal partner for cross-border deals”. The Latam wing of Teneo is led by Juan José Perojo.

Daniel Butters, CEO of Teneo’s global financial advisory business, added, “I am delighted to open Teneo’s office in Spain; it’s a very exciting milestone in the growth of our business. I warmly welcome Javier and Francisco to the team, both of whom bring significant restructuring experience and market connectivity. Along with the recent appointment of Juan José Perojo, this growth in our team represents an important step for Teneo as we build out our operations in Spain and Latin America, providing us with a presence in all major financial hubs around the world.”
