Temu announces Australian businesses now allowed to sell directly to local consumers

Chinese online marketplace Temu is celebrating two years in Australia by inviting local businesses to sell on its platform for the first time.

Known for its affordability, Temu landed in Australia in March 2023 and announced on Friday it would now allow Australian businesses to sell directly to Australian consumers through its platform in an effort to boost local commerce, product selection and enable faster delivery of items.

“For consumers, the addition of local sellers means they’ll be able to enjoy a broader selection from Australia-based sellers on Temu,” a spokesperson for the company said.

“Local businesses can now tap on Temu as a low-cost channel to connect with millions of shoppers, creating new opportunities to expand and reach new customers.”

Temu has rolled out the same local-to-local model in more than a dozen markets, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Japan, and South Korea.

Launching in the US in September 2022, the platform has since expanded to 90 markets across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.

According to Similarweb’s 2025 Digital 100 Australia report, Temu has been ranked the fastest-growing website in Australia, with a 72 per cent increase in unique visitors year-over-year.

Temu was the most downloaded iPhone app in Australia for 2024, according to Apple’s App Store data.
