With just months to go before the Bihar Assembly elections, the voter list revision process has sparked a political uproar, especially after RJD Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav discovered his own name missing from the electoral rolls during a live Press conference in Patna. In a dramatic moment, Yadav used the Election Commission of India’s mobile App to check his voter status by entering his name and EPIC number, only to find no results.
Displaying the outcome to the media, he remarked sarcastically: “My name is not in the voter list after the revision. It means I am not a resident of Bihar and I cannot contest the election.”
He added: “As I am currently in Bihar, I can physically verify my details. But what about the poor and migrant voters who are working outside the state? If their names don’t appear on the app, how will they know? Is the Election Commission is running a fake app?”

Tejashwi Yadav alleges mass voter deletion ahead of elections
Tejashwi Yadav has raised serious concerns after more than 65 lakh voter names were reportedly deleted across Bihar during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025 drive carried out by the Election Commission. This accounts for nearly 8.5 per cent of the total voters in the state.
Yadav said that he had properly submitted his voter form, which was collected by the Booth Level Officer (BLO) from his home. Yet, he says his name and those of many RJD staff members, a senior IAS officer, and his wife have gone missing from the voter list.
He claimed that 20,000 to 30,000 names have been removed from every Assembly constituency, and questioned whether this was a mistake or done with a political motive.
“There was no transparency. Political parties weren’t even told before deleting names,” Yadav said, adding that even Supreme Court guidelines were not followed during the process.
Tejashwi Yadav slams Election Commission, calls for voter list transparency
Yadav has strongly criticised the Election Commission, accusing it of acting under political pressure. He called it a “Godi Commission,” a term used for institutions seen as supporting the ruling party without question. Yadav claimed, “The Election Commission is taking orders from Gujarat. It has become a puppet.”
He demanded that the Commission make public all details of the deleted voters, including EPIC numbers, full addresses, and polling booth information, so that political parties can cross-check and ensure no genuine voter has been wrongly removed.
He said the lack of this information makes it hard to hold anyone accountable and affects fair democratic processes.
Yadav also shared that an RJD team met with the Election Commission on Friday to raise their concerns, but their issues were not taken seriously.
Due to the large number of deleted names, Yadav urged the Commission and the government to reconsider the election timeline and give more time for people to file objections and corrections.
“Lakhs of people can’t be removed from the voter list without notice. People should be given a fair chance to raise objections and get their names added again,” he said.
EC denies Tejashwi’s claim
The ECI denied the allegation, stating that Tejashwi’s name was indeed present in the roll. BJP leader Amit Malviya also posted a screenshot of the draft roll on X, showing Tejashwi Yadav’s name at Serial Number 416. “Fake News Alert. Tejashwi Yadav’s claim that his name is missing from the electoral roll post Special Intensive Revision is false. His name appears at Serial Number 416. Please verify facts before amplifying misinformation. Deliberate attempts to mislead voters must be called out,” Malviya said on X.

Patna has the highest number of 46,51,694 electors followed by Purvi Champaran (33,73,055), Muzaffarpur (32,03,370), Madhubani (30,24,245), Gayaji (29,01,493), Samastipur (28,61,415), Saran (28,60,885) and Darbhanga (27,99,852). Sheohar accounts for the lowest number of voters at 2,95,929, followed by Arwal (5,11,568), Lakhisarai (7,33,600), Jahanabad (7,81,313) and Munger (9,75,222).
