Tannaz Irani, who is known for her work in films like Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, among others, recently opened up about her relationship with her oldest daughter Zianne. Tanaaz was just 20 when she married her first husband Farid Currim, who was 18 years older than her. The marriage fell apart and Tanaaz walked out of the house leaving her daughter with her ex-husband. In a recent interview, Tanaaz said that this episode was extremely “painful and unsettling” for her daughter. She shared that she felt she acted in an “immature” way at the time and described herself as “callous”.
Talking on A Inner Habit podcast, Tanaaz shared that her daughter is 32 years old now and they have managed to repair their relationship. “When I walked out, I was very very strong. I was hurt and scared but I was strong because I knew that I was now free to do whatever I wanted to do,” she said and recalled that he daughter stayed with the father.
Tanaaz Irani shared her daughter’s experience and said, “It was very painful for her. Especially at a time when divorces were not big at all. Very painful for her, very unsettling for her. I was her be all and end all, everything. I think I was very immature, not understanding the bigger picture at that time. I was not evolved at all. I was very young, very callous. I wouldn’t say selfish but I just knew one thing was my goal, just to work at my dreams and be the person I am.”

Tanaaz said that she did not receive enough guidance at the time and did not realise that what she was doing was perhaps, not correct. “There was something about me that I didn’t understand, maybe no one explained it to me, no one taught it to me, no one had a discussion with me, no one guided me so I thought it’s okay to do what I did and maybe I was wrong,” she said and added that she has since made amends with her daughter.
“Ever since then, of course, I have apologised to her, I have spoken to her. Now that she is in a better space and I am in a better space and there are so many things I open up with her today which maybe she was devoid of at that time because there was no one to help at that time. They were very barbaric ages as far as emotions were concerned,” she said.
Tanaaz Irani is now married to Bakhtiyar Irani. They have two kids – Zeus and Zara.
