The Swans appear to have firmed up interest in the striker, who’s currently one of the hottest properties in League One
Swansea City have launched a bid for Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone, sources have told WalesOnline.
The Swans are among a clutch of clubs to have taken an interest in the 22-year-old, who currently has one year left on his current deal with the Chairboys, and have now pushed ahead with a bid to make him their sixth signing of the summer.
It’s understood Swansea have already had a bid knocked back by Wanderers, but have since returned with a package worth around £4.5m. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here.
Wycombe are believed to be considering the offer, having already rejected a bid worth around £3m from Preston North End.
A similar approach from French side Toulouse has also been knocked back, while there are a number of other clubs in the Championship believed to be taking an interest.
However, at this stage, it appears Swansea are leading the chase, although the club declined to comment when approached by WalesOnline.
Swansea have already enjoyed a busy summer, having secured the captures of Zeidane Inoussa, Bobby Wales, Cameron Burgess, Ricardo Santos and Ethan Galbraith.
Signing Kone would certainly help to add more firepower to Alan Sheehan’s attacking arsenal next term, with Mykola Kuharevich sold to Slovan Bratislava and Jerry Yates now looking highly likely to move on amid keen interest from former club Blackpool.
Kone has caught the attention of a number of clubs following his exploits last season.
An impressive tally of 21 goals in 52 games in all competitions helped fire Wycombe into the play-offs last term.
He was also named League One’s Player of the Season. Sign up to the Swansea City WhatsApp service to get breaking news and top stories sent to your phone.
One of his goals last season was even against Swansea, coming in a shock 1-0 win for Wanderers in the League Cup back in August.
It appears there’s now a real chance his next appearance in SA1 could be in a Swans shirt.
Swansea are currently in the middle of pre-season preparations ahead of the start of the new Championship campaign next week.
They continue their summer schedule with a friendly at home to French side Lorient at the Swansea.com Stadium this weekend.
