Netflix’s Geek Girl has just announced a new cast member for its second season
A popular Netflix series is currently in the process of filming its second season, and has just announced an exciting new cast member.
With a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and a House of the Dragon star in the lead role, Geek Girl was a must-see for young adult viewers when it premiered on the platform last year.
After concerns about its potential cancellation, the series, which stars Emily Carey as a teenager who unexpectedly becomes a model, was finally renewed in April this year, almost a year after its initial release.
Filming is now well underway in London, with cast members including Carey, Emmanuel Imani, Liam Woodrum, Rochelle Harrington, Zac Looker, Sarah Parish, Tim Downie, Jemima Rooper and Hebe Beardshall all set to reprise their roles.
Netflix made the announcement this week, providing a sneak peek at the cast’s first table read for the upcoming season, reports the Express.
The streaming giant also confirmed the exciting addition of Layton Williams to the already impressive Geek Girl cast, where he will play a character named Onassis.
Known for his roles in Bad Education and I Hate Suzie, Williams is familiar to audiences from his participation in the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing, where he was partnered with professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin.
They finished as joint runners-up alongside Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell, with Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola taking home the Glitterball trophy that year.
A synopsis from Netflix reads: “Based on the internationally bestselling novels by Holly Smale, Geek Girl follows socially awkward but endearing teenager Harriet Manners as she’s unexpectedly thrust into the fashion world – navigating runway chaos, mean girls, and personal growth along the way.
“Season 2 picks up as Harriet continues to juggle school life with the ever-escalating demands of modelling, friendships, and discovering who she truly wants to be.”
Numerous excited fans will be delighted to watch the second series of Geek Girl when it eventually arrives, as the initial series was regarded as one of Netflix’s finest YA programmes ever.
The Guardian awarded the programme four stars and praised: “The onscreen version of the bestselling YA novels loses absolutely none of the originals’ charm.
