Stéphane Sérafin: The Charter is for mass murderers, not the rest of us

More broadly, there are serious reasons to doubt that the Charter will offer much protection to anyone, male or female, who expresses a political opinion at odds with prevailing left-liberal orthodoxies, even as those who hold such adverse opinions may include upwards of 70 per cent of the Canadian population. This concern is particularly salient, given that Liberal Leader Mark Carney has suggested that he would revive Bill C-63, also known as the “Online Harms Act,” if elected. This Bill would impose potential life imprisonment for “hate speech,” in addition to allowing private actors to bring human rights complaints against anyone they believe to have engaged in such speech.
