If you experienced issues with your PlayStation around the festive period, you might have been compensated or could be in line for complimentary credit on the PlayStation store. The glitch surfaced in late December, leaving players baffled as they were unable to redeem PS Store vouchers or gift cards.

However, Sony is now offering nearly £7.90 in free store credit to those affected by the mishap. The tech titan has credited $10 (£7.90) to the accounts of users hit by the PlayStation Store error.

Sony has informed customers about this goodwill gesture via email, as reported by PlayStation LifeStyle. The email stated: “We are aware that on December 24, 2024, a systems error resulted in users being unable to redeem voucher codes on the PlayStation Store, and we have identified your account as one impacted by this error.”

The extent of the IT problem’s impact is still unknown, but it has sparked conversations among gamers on Twitter.

One user exclaimed: “Wait we received $10/€ of store credit for free because a problem with redeeming vouchers on PS store? ? ?” Another referenced another recent PlayStation issue, tweeting: “#PlayStationNetworkDown @PlayStation we deserve ps plus a free game some store credit something for this it’s a Friday night we haven’t been able to play all day”.

A Reddit thread from the time of the incident saw numerous users voicing their frustrations at not being able to redeem PS Store gift cards, reports the Daily Record.

One comment suggested that the issue persisted for several weeks. Sony has not yet provided an explanation for the December problem or the most recent PSN outage.

But how can you determine if you’ve been compensated?

Here’s how to check if you’ve received free PS Store credit: If you were given the compensation credit, it should be visible in your PS Store wallet. Check the email account associated with your PlayStation ID to see if Sony sent you an apology message.

If you think you’re entitled to the store credit but haven’t received it, it’s recommended to contact PlayStation customer support.
