Plumes of smoke covered the carriageway as multiple lanes were blocked
A vehicle burst into flames on the M62 on Tuesday (May 27) with lanes closed and emergency services racing to the scene.
There were major delays on the eastbound carriage of the motorway throughout rush hour following the incident, between J9 for Winwick and J10 for the M6 and Croft Interchange.
Motorway traffic images showed plumes of smoke covering the road with fire engines in attendance during the blaze, which broke out at around 3.35pm.

Three lanes were closed while emergency crews responded, causing delays throughout the afternoon and evening.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “A vehicle that was well alight on a motorway slip road required firefighters to attend and extinguish it with a hose reel.
“Three lanes of the motorway were closed while the incident was dealt with, leaving only lane four open. Crews also cooled two camping gas cylinders with water as a precaution.”
