Six injured as dispute over rash driving turns violent in Bhopal | India News

At least six people were injured when an altercation over rash driving snowballed into a clash in Bhopal’s Jahangirabad area on Tuesday.

According to police, the dispute began on Sunday. DCP Zone-1, Bhopal, Priyanka Shukla said, “Two days ago, there was a dispute between two parties over the speed of a motorcycle under Jahangirabad police station in which an FIR was registered. There were five accused, three of whom were immediately arrested and two are absconding. Our police team is searching for them.”

Police said that on Sunday, local resident Faiz allegedly drove his vehicle recklessly through the neighbourhood. This led to an altercation with people from the locality’s majority community, during which he allegedly grabbed a knife from a vegetable cart and attacked one person.

After this, an FIR was registered and Faiz was arrested. Police said that two groups of people had pelted stones and brandished swords before police rushed to the area and brought the situation under control.

On Tuesday, a clash broke out again after one of those absconding since Sunday’s incident was allegedly seen in the area.

“People on one side said they had seen the absconding accused, due to which they got angry and about 25-30 people came here with sticks. They also pelted stones, but since policemen were already deployed in the area, the control room was immediately informed and adequate police force arrived. In about five minutes, all the people creating disturbance were chased away… Action is being taken in the matter. Now the situation is under control,” Shukla said.

An officer said the “stone-pelters will be identified using CCTV footage and action will be taken”.
