SIU probing firearm discharge during stolen vehicle bust

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the discharge of a firearm by a Toronto Police officer Monday evening in North York.

The SIU said police were allegedly following a reportedly stolen vehicle at about 6 p.m. on Needle Firway, where they stopped the car and ordered two male occupants to exit the vehicle. At some point, an officer allegedly discharged his firearm and the men were arrested.

No one was struck by the firearm discharge and no serious injuries were reported during the arrest.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

MAN ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING MINOR

A 40-year-old Toronto man has been charged with sexual interference following an incident act allegedly involving a minor.

Toronto Police said that on May 17, police responded to a sexual assault call in the Yonge-Dundas Sts. area.

The victim, a child, was in a corridor leading to the washrooms inside a mall when the suspect allegedly approached and attempted to initiate a conversation before sexually assaulting them.

Cops said the victim ran to their friends for help and the suspect fled.

Remington Puopolo was arrested May 20 and charged with sexual interference, failure to comply with a release order, failure to comply with a probation order and breach of recognizance.
