Lahore Qalandars’ star all-rounder Sikandar Raza dismissed complaints about batting positions as an “excuse for failure” after his Man of the Match performance against Islamabad United at Gaddafi Stadium.
The Pakistani-Zimbabwean backed his words with action once again. Sikandar Raza, who batted at No. 6, scored a blazing 39 off 17 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes, helping Qalandars reach a strong total of 209. He also took 3 wickets, proving his all-round value.
His performance stood out as an example amid ongoing complaints from Pakistani batters, like Iftikhar Ahmad, who often blame their struggles on not batting in their preferred top-order positions.
In a post-match interview with Sikandar Bakht, Raza said,
I train for the situation, not for the number. If you train well for certain situations, it doesn’t matter what number you bat at.
Raza’s approach challenges this mindset, showing that adaptability and preparation can lead to success regardless of batting order. Something a lot of our batsmen can learn a thing or two about.
