Evil child killer Mick Philpott was brutally beaten by a fellow inmate at the notorious HMP Wakefield, leaving him in a ‘bad way’, according to a source.
Twisted child killer Mick Philpott has been left battered and bruised after an attack at HMP Wakefield, according to reports.
Philpott, who killed six of his kids when he set fire to his own home in 2012, was reportedly assaulted by a fellow inmate wielding a metal container, reports the Mirror.
A prison source claims Philpott was left “in a bad way after the attack”. He was reportedly repeatedly struck from behind in the notorious jail, which houses some of the UK’s most dangerous criminals.
A source said: “Philpott was in a bad way after the attack – battered and bruised and with two large and noticeable lumps on the back of his head.”
“The other lad pounced on him and whacked him quite a few times from behind,” they told the Sun. “It was one bloke on his own – someone quite a bit younger than Philpott and it happened really quickly on the landing.”
The source described a “huge commotion” as guards raced in to defuse the situation. They said Philpott, jailed after being convicted of six counts of manslaughter, could have come off a lot worse in the attack.
They added that the 68-year-old had been feeling sorry for himself while incarcerated in the tough jail, where some of Britain’s most notorious criminals have been held, such as serial killer doctor Harold Shipman and double child murderer Ian Huntley.
The source added: “The only sympathy in that jail is for the six kids he murdered. People were laughing about it afterwards.”
The horror 2012 attack in Allenton, Derby, killed Duwayne, 13, Jade, 10, John, nine, Jack, seven, Jesse, six, and Jayden, five. Philpott, his wife Mairead and Paul Mosley planned to set the fire and frame an ex-lover, all while emerging as a hero after rescuing the children.
In a sickening bid for public sympathy, the couple later staged a tearful press conference – but their crocodile tears meant nothing after police bugged their hotel room and caught them admitting to the crime.
In 2013, the evil trio were convicted of manslaughter. Mosley and Mairead have since been released while Mick, serving 15 years to life, is eligible for parole in 2028.
The source said that the inmate who allegedly attacked Philpott wanted to “make a name” for themselves. They added that the incident unfolded “really quickly”.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Violence will not be tolerated in the prison estate and anyone found guilty of wrongdoing will be punished.” The Mirror has approached the Prison Service and HMP Wakefield for further comment.
