Antiques Road Trip’s Christina Trevanion and Mark Stacey were left flabbergasted when a vegetable barrow they acquired for £10 soared to an astonishing price at auction.

The pair, known for their keen eye for antiques, could hardly believe their luck as the unassuming piece, once destined to be discarded as firewood, became the subject of a fierce bidding war among collectors, reports Express.co.uk.

As the bids escalated, a flustered Mark remarked, “Good Lord. Why?” to which a bemused Christina responded, “I have no idea.”

As the number continued to rise, Mark quipped in jest: “Can I go home now?”.

Wanting her co-star to witness her item’s whopping profit, Christina implored Mark to remain by her side. “No! Stay here and hold my hand!” she said as they watched the price climb.

“The vegetable barrow was sold for a staggering £130, leaving narrator Tim Wonnacott unable to hide his astonishment either,” she said.

“My goodness Christina! What a whopper of a profit. Well done!”, he remarked in his voiceover.

Christina herself was left speechless by the turn of events, admitting: “Well, I’m flabbergasted. I’m just flabbergasted,” still trying to fathom the unexpected windfall from the sale of the antique barrow.

Despite Christina’s huge profit, Mark managed to recoup some funds and break even after suffering a blow on another piece, ensuring the competition remained tight.

By the episode’s conclusion, Christina had amassed £377.10, with Mark slightly ahead at £398.36.

Christina made her first appearance on Antiques Road Trip in 2014 and has been a core member of the team ever since.

She is also a regular face on Bargain Hunt and recently shared some behind-the-scenes secrets as the show celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Speaking on BBC’s Morning Live last week, the celebrated presenter was broadcasting from Devon when she disclosed the common blunder that causes contestants to miss out on the coveted Golden Gavel.

Accompanied by show director Ben, Christina highlighted: “There is one thing most, well I will say all contestants want from the show and that is of course the Golden Gavel.”

Inquiring about the path to victory, Christina asked: “Now how does one win a Golden Gavel?” To which Ben responded: “It’s straight forward. Three items and three profits, it’s as simple as that.”

Christina countered: “It’s not as simple as that,” emphasising the rarity of the Golden Gavels.

She then elaborated: “Of course some of our contestants come on the show and think ‘we get to spend the day at an antiques fair, we get to run around and we have the whole day’ but that’s not the case is it?”.

Ben explained that contestants only get one hour to find antiques, which often leads to their downfall as they only purchase two items. Christina added: “So they go to auction with just two items so that’s the golden gavel straight out.”
