Boston Marathon
Emily Craven is running her sixth marathon, raising funds for a summer journalism internship program for Fig City News.

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
Name: Emily Craven
Age: 20
From: Newton
I am running the Boston Marathon for Fig City News, a local Newton news source. They will be using the money I raise to fund their summer internship program, which supports young journalists — some of whom are students at my old high school.
I decided to apply for the Boston Marathon through a charity team because I love running, and I am incredibly passionate about philanthropy. I dedicate a majority of my free time fundraising for Ronald McDonald House Charities and the University of Vermont Children’s Hospital (my university). It was an honor to get chosen for the Fig City News team to get to fundraise for them as well.
The Boston Marathon will be my sixth marathon, and I am so excited to be able to give back to my community, especially the students. I was lucky enough to gain field experience related to my career in high school, and I am excited to get to fund opportunities like that for other students.
