Sanya Malhotra’s stunning curls are a defining part of her fiery persona. But maintaining curly hair is no easy feat, especially when battling unpredictable weather. In a conversation with Tweak India, Malhotra shared her go-to routine for taming and styling her gorgeous curls.
“I wash my hair and condition it. I use a wet brush and gently comb through my hair. I do my curly hair routine when my hair is drenched with water. First, I apply curl cream and then scrunch the sections. As I’m doing that, I also seal it with some hair gel. I use a strong-hold gel for Mumbai because the weather is humid here, and it gets frizzy quickly. Next, I diffuse my hair and break the cast with a hair oil to open it up and add volume,” Malhotra shared.
What are some key things to keep in mind when it comes to taking care of curly hair? Indianexpress.com spoke to an expert to find out.
According to Tehning Yang, creative stylist, Geetanjali Salon, Noida, the best way to take care of curly hair is to avoid rubbing shampoo through the hair shaft. Instead, gently massage the shampoo on the scalp and let it run through the hair while rising.
“Avoid rubbing a towel against the hair to dry it. Wrapping your hair in a microfiber towel will reduce friction and control frizz. Do not use leave-in on dripping hair. Let it dry 40 per cent, and then layer the hair with a serum and hydration cream followed by a curl cream and/or mousse (optional),” she said.
“Using the right consistency of leave-in product—whether gel, cream, or oil-based—depending on the hair’s coarseness is key to minimising frizz,” she said.
Yang also advised using a diffuser only to remove excess water and letting the hair air-dry afterward. “Do not use high heat while diffusing. While sleeping, using silk pillowcases, turbans, or scarves helps reduce moisture loss,” she said.
