Ryan Mason has been appointed West Brom head coach on a three-year deal
West Bromwich Albion have appointed Ryan Mason as head coach on a three-year deal.
Mason shot to the top of Albion’s list following Tony Mowbray’s dismissal on April 21st with the 33-year-old highly-rated as part of the coaching staff at Tottenham.
With Spurs’ season having drawn to a close and after enjoying a brief holiday, Mason now moves into his first managerial role at The Hawthorns.
Formerly an assistant coach at Tottenham, Mason told Albion’s website: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have been appointed head coach of West Bromwich Albion.
“This is a huge club with a fantastic infrastructure and an incredible fan-base and I am excited about what we can achieve together.
“Having spoken at length to the board and those at the club, I am convinced that Albion is the perfect place for me to be and I can’t wait to get started.
“I will bring with me a huge amount of enthusiasm, dedication and ambition and look forward to a positive future together at such a fantastic club.”
Mason, now the Championship’s youngest boss at 33, bids farewell to a seven-year coaching stint with Tottenham.
Mason played 70 matches for the North London club after coming up through their youth ranks before a severe head injury ended his playing days prematurely in 2018.
A decade after earning his single England cap against Italy, the London-born coach is set to embark on his first managerial role in the 2025-26 season.
The highly-regarded coach Mason held discussions with Belgian club Anderlecht in October before a mutual decision was made for him to stay at Spurs, allowing him to contribute to the club’s first trophy since 2008 as they won the Europa League.
After two previous interim stints at Tottenham, including leading the team in the 2021 Carabao Cup final, Mason has long been seen as a future manager.
Mason began coaching at youth level for Spurs upon retiring from playing, before being promoted to Antonio Conte’s coaching staff three years later, shortly after a seven-match stint as temporary boss.
Another interim role came in 2023 following Conte’s exit, before Ange Postecoglou retained Mason as part of his backroom staff.
After an additional two years as Tottenham’s first-team coach, Mason will take the reins at the Baggies after they finished ninth in the Championship.
Mowbray was sacked in April after their play-off hopes were dashed, having being appointed in January to replace Carlos Corberan, who left to manage Valencia.
