“As of today (March 10), The maintenance work will be carried out from the money allocated to the coastal road department in the BMC’s budget every year. By floating this tender we decided to compartmentalise the fund where a portion will be utilised for operation and maintenance work specifically,” said a civic official.

Civic officials however maintained that upkeep for the tunnel ventilation and unlimited power supply (UPS) system will be maintained by BMC for two more years, following which the role will be assigned to the contractor who will be awarded this work order.

“When we incorporate additional work in the existing tender, that will lead to cost escalation, which will be revised in the tender that will be floated later,” said the official.
