Road taped off and man rushed to hospital after serious motorbike collision

A road was taped off and a man rushed to hospital after a serious collision involving a car and a motorbike on Thursday night (March 6).

Police cordoned off Oldham Road in Newton Heath following the smash, with the road closed between Ten Acres Lane and Erwin Street.

Pictures from the scene showed a car within the cordon, along with a small damaged motorbike beside it with learner plates on. The collision was reported at the junction of Oldham Road and Thorp Road.

It’s understood the rider, whose age has not been confirmed, was injured and taken to hospital. Police have not yet confirmed his condition.

Bus services and traffic was diverted away from the scene following the incident on Thursday night, with officers in high-vis coats seen standing beside the cordon.

A witness also reported seeing two ambulances at the scene, saying the crash ‘looked very serious’, with other police vehicles lining the road amid investigations.

Greater Manchester Police have not yet confirmed any details surrounding the crash. The force has been approached for information.
