Headquartered in Munich, Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) is the joint venture formed by Rheinmetall AG (51 %) and MAN Truck & Bus SE (49 %), specialised in design and production of protected and unprotected logistic vehicles. Its main facility is in Austria, the Vienna plant being modernised to be able to cope with the increasing demand of military trucks, however other operations are established in the United Kingdom and Australia.
In late June the Vienna-Liesing facility hosted the “Mobility Days 2025”, an event that allowed to get a full impression of how RMMV is adapting to the new realities and on its products developments.
EDR On-Line readers will find hereafter several articles on specific topics.
Other subjects were illustrated during the two-day event; after one day at the production facility, day-two was spent at the OffroadZentrum Stotzing, where it was possible to witness first hand RMMV trucks performances on the field.

Recovery vehicles were also part of the dynamic demonstration; different solutions are available in the RMMV portfolio, ranging from the HX 6×6 Light Recovery Vehicle, stepping up to the HX 8×8 Medium Recovery Vehicle, to the HX 8×8 Heavy Recovery Vehicle, which was starring at the Stotzing proofing ground. With a gross vehicle mass of 38,000 kg in the unarmoured version, to which we must add 3,000 kg in the armoured configuration, its main “weapons” being the Rotzler Treibmatic winch capable to provide a constant 250 kN pulling force, with a 26 mm diameter cable 103 metres long. The cable, as well as many other elements, were put as much forward as possible in the vehicle to compensate the rear load, when a vehicle is towed using the underlift system with a 15 tonnes hook load capacity, fitted at the back. As for lifting loads, the Rotator 1050M crane, fitted with two winches, can lift a 13 tonnes load with the fully extended boom t 30° elevation. A full set of tools is hosted on the vehicle, these being usually customer-tailored.
On November 14th, 2024, Canada announced the signature of a $ 374 million contract to Rheinmetall Canada for the acquisition of 85 Enhanced Recovery Capability (ERC) vehicles, 24 armoured cabins, associated ancillary equipment and integrated logistics support, with options for the procurement of additional vehicles and armoured cabs. A second contract, worth $ 30.4 million covers in-service support for approximately 5 years, plus options for up to 16 years. Based on the HX 8×8 Heavy Recovery Vehicle, the ERC configuration is now being finalised by the RMMV R&D department at Vienna-Liesing according to Canada’s requirements, and once the prototype will be tested and accepted by the customer serial production will start.

Talking logistic support, RMMV presented its “Man in the Van” concept, which sees an experienced company maintainer with a purposely fitted van with spares and equipment, capable to drive to any military base to cooperate with military maintainers when these need support. The concept was developed together with the German Armed Forces, and now RMMV has 18 such vans and personnel in Germany, capable to deploy to any military base on national territory, the effect being not only to cut down on repair time but also to increase the knowledge of military maintainers.
