Richard Osman has opened up about the thoughtful gift his wife Ingrid Oliver got him, describing it as “special, lovely, beautiful thing”
Author Richard Osman has shared the charming detail of a thoughtful gift from his wife Ingrid Oliver, calling it “a special, lovely, beautiful thing”.
In a relationship brimming with warmth, Richard, married to actress Ingrid for more than two years, has been opening up about their partnership ever since their first meeting on House of Games.
Their connection quickly deepened, leading to a wedding in 2022 that was greeted with widespread happiness and affection.
The subject arose during Richard’s The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, which he presents alongside journalist Marina Hyde and touches upon topics like the value of rare books.
During a conversation about the worth of first edition volumes, Richard revealed that his wife had bought him a gift that held great sentimental value—a first edition of A Month in the Country by J L Carr, reports Coventry Live.
He expressed his gratitude on the podcast, sharing: “Ingrid got me as a present, an American first edition of my favourite book ever, ‘A Month in the Country’. It’s not one of those ones, it’s just such a special lovely beautiful thing to have.”
Richard’s fondness for Ingrid is no secret; in an interview with Hello! magazine, when questioned whether he’s at his happiest, he confirmed: “Yeah I think so, I’m quite a content human being which comes from introversion.
“Certain members of my family always need to be out doing things, seeing people, which is that extrovert thing.
“That’s not them running from anything, that’s just them, they need constant stimulation. I’m happy at home with my wife and the cats and the snooker. I find contentment very easy.”
Richard shares his home with Ingrid Oliver and his two children from a previous marriage.
In a candid conversation on Desert Island Discs, he said: “I’m happy with myself, I’ve got these beautiful kids, I’ve met the woman who I’m going to be with for the rest of my life.
“That thing of competition and ambition, you soon realise that rocket fuel disappears and it’s about happiness and my kids bring me happiness and Ingrid brings me happiness.”
Their partnership extends beyond their personal life, as Ingrid is set to appear in the film adaptation of Richard’s novel, The Thursday Murder Club, taking on the role of Joanna. Ingrid has previously showcased her acting talents in shows like Doctor Who, Sweet Pea, and Beyond Paradise.
In other news, Richard’s popular show, House of Games, is gearing up for its seventh season, which will premiere on BBC 2 this Friday at 7pm.
